Bob Johnson's Computer Stuff Provides Value – Not Just Computer Stuff

Twenty-five years ago the fast food chain Wendy's ran a TV commercial where a woman named Clara Peller asked : WHERE'S THE BEEF?! She was referring to the skimpy size of the burger on a big fluffy bun served by a Wendy's competitor. Sequels featured her yelling that same question over the phone at a Fluffy Bun executive on his yacht. In the spring of 1984, then US Presidential Candidate and former US Vice President Walter Mondale used that line to ridicule his rival, Senator Gary Hart, during a televised debate. But, lest I digress further, what Clara's question really asks is about VALUE. In the case of fast food, it's about portion size; In politics, it's about what your getting for your vote and taxes; In the case of Bob Johnson's Computer Stuff, it's about what are you getting for buying from us and what that is worth. This writer thinks the question is valid in all three cases - especially today when we're all spending hard earned dollars in a weak economy.

With that backdrop in mind, at Bob Johnson's Computer Stuff our top goal is delivering on the promise of customer satisfaction and care – that means not just selling affordable computers – it means providing value – going the extra mile – doing the right thing – giving you THE BEEF. A few examples of the value we bring (or are giving you THE BEEF) are:

  • Many customers want at least a Gig of memory in their laptops. In response, we increased the standard memory in our most popular laptops from 512Meg to 1Gig and did not raise our prices. The value: What you want at no extra charge
  • Customers need their computers when they need them. Period. To help deliver that, at no charge we install remote diagnostic software. The value: Expedited problem resolution and minimized down time due to returns to our shop
  • Many companies charge for handling when it comes to shipment. At Bob Johnson's Computer Stuff we simply charge the customer what our  shipper charges us. The Value: We don't try to boost our revenue with a side line business called handling fees
  • Rather than make you search for fixes or send your computer to us, we are now adding a section to our site called “Fixing Common Problems ”. The Value: Sharing our knowledge openly and not trying to profit from that
  • When we don't have what you need we offer alternative sources to you – even if that means sending you to a competitor if they have the item or a better solution. The Value: What you need when you need it and from the best source available

These are but a few examples of where we demonstrate value and provide THE BEEF. We do all this because as both business people and consumers ourselves, we know what we expect from a vendor – thus we have to deliver that ourselves. But more important, we do all this because it is the right thing to do. Customer care and satisfaction are paramount to us.

When it is all said and done, we think that Clara would be proud of us – that we found THE BEEF, that we are taking the correct and most effective steps to deliver value and the promise of customer satisfaction and care.
