Ruggedized Laptop Computers 

A ruggedized laptop is one that can withstand vibration, heat, cold, and moisture.  The Panasonic Toughbook ruggedized laptops are such an animal. The ruggedized laptop has two important features that give it the ruggedness needed to work in the harshest environments.  It has a shock resistant hard drive and there are moisture seals over all the ports in the laptop.

Shock Resistant:

A ruggedized laptop computer like the Panasonic Toughbook line is shock resistant.  In other words you can drop the laptop and just pick it up, start working like nothing happened.  Some models that have this type of rugged feature are the CF-18, CF-19, CF-27, CF-28, CF-29, and the CF-30.  We found some great information about these rugged laptops in extreme temperature and harsh environments.  Panasonic's website also has some great rugged laptop videos.

Dust and Moisture resistant:

Not only are these laptops shock resistant but they are also designed to keep dirt and moisture out.  They have water tight seals that protect the ports (USB, Firewire, PCMCIA slots and power port).  Not to mention the water seals around the screen and other parts of these laptops.  We found this page on Panasonic's website that gives a nice rugged laptop video and explaination. 

These of course are two important features for rugged laptops but by no means are the only features that are included.  Add to the features a touch screen, magnesium casing and mil-std-810f and 461E to name just a few and you have a laptop that will last for ever.

The Panasonic Toughbook line of laptops also include other models that are considered semi-rugged and ultra portable.  Although they are not as shock resistant or dust resistant they are still built to last.  Your choice of the model that fits your application is important.  Remember that if you need ruggedized the durability of the ruggedized model will be the best choice.
